Just Another Sunday in Hell: Paris-Roubaix.

The legendary Northern one day classic, from Porte Maillot in Paris to the Velodrome in Park Barbieux in the French town of Roubaix, today at 6pm on Versus.

So Into: Yuketen Fishermen Oxfords.

I was late to the party last year on the Ranger Mocs. This year, I am going to attempt to be a bit more hasty with these Fishermen Oxfords. Classic and so rad. Available @ Bureau.

Spring Layers: Shirt Jac'in.

Yeah, it's been in the 80's the past few days, but it ain't summer yet. Enter the shirt jac, or over shirt, however you want to refer to it.
Below, a few of my go-to's.

On the Subject of: Things in Which to Carry Other Things.

A friend emailed me saying he was heading to Madison, WI to shoot the Black Lips. He'd be there only 24 hours and was wondering if I knew anything about Madison; where to stay, what to do...That's when I first, directed him to the dirty dozen I did sometime ago with Madison's own Ryan Huber and second, got in touch directly to see what was shakin' with him and if he had anything more to add. He immediately shot back an email that would make the best concierge hang up their hat.
Getting over my jealousy that my friend would make a visit to Madison and it's stylish center of gravity, Context, I forwarded it along.
In a "one good turn..." way of things(or something along those lines), I was hand delivered, upon my friend's return, a little souvenir from the Badger state's capital city.
Beautifully vegetable tanned 5 oz. leather and handmade in Wisconsin, Kenton Sorenson is heirloom quality leather work that's gonna get better looking with each year.
A huge thanks to Ryan and Sam.

No Two Alike: O'Shields-Ricker Lake Bags.

Having posted on Jeff Ricker's hand made lake bags a few times, (the first being after seeing them in LA at Nickey Kehoe and the most recently after Jeff graciously sent this bag my way),he's done it again, sending my wife this great Navy Captian's bag. Beautiful heavy canvas duck with Japanese indigo-dyed patches and adjustable (knotted) web handles. It's a great bag to have when the weather gets this nice and you start thinking of the few things you'll throw in it for a day at the beach or by the lake. And since last posting, Jeff's got an O'Shields-Ricker site up and running with photos and info on the rest of his handy work.

Always an interesting and well found collection of images. Isaac, Godspeed.

Epic Field Trip pt. II: Apolis Profiles, NYC.

When Shea Parton emailed and asked me to lend a hand on a couple of profiles he was coming into NYC to shoot, I accepted without hesitating. If for no other reason than the Parton brothers are some of the absolute greatest guys you're bound to cross paths with.
Then factor into the equation that a)Apolis makes clothing that you want to wear all the time b)do it in a way that creates real and tangible hope and opportunities for developing economies around the world and c)did I mention they're some genuinely great guys.
Our day started early in Jersey City at the home of Citta International's Executive Director, Michael Daube. From there, into the city to shoot on the streets of Soho and NoLita. Then to where Michael takes meetings, his good friend David Byrne's studio. A roving pack of gorilla film makers(*trying to grab shots at a cafe on Mott, we were almost shut down until Shea got on the phone) and activists

Was a day well spent and with great peo

ple involved. Huge thanks to Shea for making it happen and getting me involved. And thanks to Michael for allowing us to tag along for the day.
I am also sure that by now, you've seen that Apolis has re-launched a super clean, awesome new home on the world wide web. Click over and have a look. Poke aroun
d for a minute and you may run into yours truly.

A Dark & Stormy Night: J.Crew Fall 10 Preview.

It couldn't have been any nicer of a day in the penthouse at Milk Studios where J. Crew presented their Men's and Women's Fall 10 collections. With the doors to the deck wide open, sun shining, the view clear west across the Hudson, Dark & Stormies being passed, it was quite a different setting from the previous presentation, elevating the whole event to great and dramatic effect. Only added to visually by the very Irving Penn-like(I don't mean the "corner"), simple and strong set...And once again, Frank Muytjens and his team show why he gained GQ's nomination this year. You just want to put the clothes on, and with this collection, go get lost in the woods like Nick Adams. As usual, great outerwear from the Expedition Down jacket(now on my list) to the Field Mechanics jacket. Footwear is heavy on Russell's and the excellent Alden Longwings and Chukkas. I was stoked to see a Kelty rucksack in the mix as well as the tone on tone patched chinos using faded vintage fabrics that give really subtle and slight variation to them. And the suiting continues to impress me, especially the beautiful marled gray wool up front(also now on my list). A really solid, well built, extremely well edited, wonderfully styled collection (J.Crew does not joke when they tell you "Jack knows best")and another home run for Frank and his crew.
With such a nice day, good people, an open deck and an open bar, I decided to stick around to see Women's. And I'm so glad I did. It is fire. Just beautifully put together. Jenna keeps pushing women's to really great heights and had to congratulate her on it.
So well done by all involved. CLICK BELOW for more photos of the event as well as some selected images from the lookbook.
