Just finished reading "Dark Harbor" - a book about the story upon which this movie is based - life on the mob-controlled docks in 1930s New York City and the landmark series in the New York Sun that uncovered the corruption on the docks with the help of some informants (Brando's character an amalgam of several) and pro-labor waterfront clergy. Really interesting read - the literary treasures inherent in historical New York City non-fiction abound!
