A well-made video for a good reason. Directed by Aaron Ekroth, my pals Sandy and Emil of The Hill-Side talk about the making of the "WA" handkerchief and their connection to cause. Made in limited numbers, all proceeds go directly to The International Rescue Committee (IRC). Areas of Japan remain in the delicate balance of recovery and agencies and relief funds remain critical. Having been in TN for a week and prior to that, at the Pop Up Flea with Hickoree's, I have finally and belatedly gotten all orders for The Rig Out #3 into the care of the USPS. There was a limited quantity available and those who received an invoice from moi, you should hopefully have The Rig Out by week's end. Those who haven't paid, time to pony up. Enjoy and apologies for the delay. The Secret Forts shipping department is population 1 and he's a bit of a ne'er do well.
It's back. Issue number three of Oi Polloi's men's zine from across the pond, The Rig Out. Secret Forts has been lucky enough to partner up with the Rig Out boys from day one, helping to get the Rig Out out here in the states from the very first issue. With this issue, the Rig Out continues to impress. An interview with WWM brand manager Marco Bazzoni. Stories include "Future Shepherd", "Dark Rainbow" and "30 Century Man" all photographed by our man and recent collaborator, Antony Crook. "Italian Lessons" from Glenn Kitson and Mark Smith. And some other good stuff in there.

Having made the hike uptown(from Brooklyn, hence hike) the other morning to have a look at J.Crew's newest men's store at 1040 Madison Avenue, a curious thing has happened since.
An undisputed classic summer shoe, hell, year round shoe, is the desert boot. Clark's may be the obvious choice but consider these. Velskoen desert boots, "vellies". Hand-made in the coastal town of Swakopmund, Namibia, at the Herbert Schier factory. From Hickoree's, "They were first made in the 1600s by members of the Dutch East India Co., inspired by the footwear of the Khoisan tribe."

I met Emil and Sandy Corsillo, brothers, founders of The Hill-side and proprietors of Hickoree's Hard Goods, a year or so ago. I was told about the Hill-side by Ryan Huber of Context Clothing. I posted about them. Emil gave me a call. We all met up at the ACE after some thing one night. Became fast friends. So I thought, a year since first discovering the Hill-side, I would pay a visit, take the chance to catch up with them, see what's new and what's to come.

I returned from Vermont sunday to find that Karin Nelson of the Times paid a visit to my friends over at Hickoree's Pop-Up(through Jan. 31st, so get over there.)
