The Long and Short of it: Hanover Pebble Grain Longwings.

The longwing has certainly come 'round again. My father wore them most every day of his adult life. He did his residency at Johns Hopkins in them. He wore them to my little league games on weekends. I'm sure most father's had a place in their closets for a pair.
Mark McNairy's soled them in redbrick. Winn Perry has their double waterlock sole for inclimate Portland days. Blackbird offers a shortwing. I've been very much wanting a pair of the waxed tobacco longwings Alden did for J. Crew and although a very sound investment, I've yet to press go on it.
Bringing me to this recent find. US made Hanover "LB Sheppard" signature pebble grain longwings. Didn't pay a lot for 'em but they'll do the trick. For now.

I've been looking at those Alden's also but with vacation and car repairs on the horizon it's hard to go through with it.
Are these Hanvor's available online? I did a quick search and did't come up with anything.

Thanks

These look good. Wasn't a fan of the pebble until I stumbled across a vintage pair Florsheim's. Hope these work out for ya.

Ain't no shame in the NEW Florsheim Kenmoors. Made in USA, Made in India, Made in Mars, Made in DGAF. Fuck the source, cause they're on point, so don't let no Uncle Sam jock ridin blog tell you otherwise. An incredibly sound $200 investment that will get you 90% of the shelf life of Alden's if you know how to treat 'em.

They are such classic shoes! I saw some knock offs at a fancy store in India but they just really couldn't compare.

Rick, Hanover is now defunct as a shoe manufacturer. They were bought by Clarks at some point in the 70's I beleive. I think the Hanover family moved into raising horses...
The longwings pictured are, of course, old. How old, I'm not sure.
But a good find at $30. We'll see how the hold up.

PA-based. They were a shoe giant through the first half of the 20th century. Nice score; they should hold up well.

Florsheim Kenmoore in the Cognac. That's the winning solution. You won't break the bank and you'll get exactly what you're looking for...or wait for the Bass Barret Longwing suede with red brick sole for like $90! The Alden's are nice but let's be honest with eachother, why spend that much right now. Maybe in the future!

I checked out Florsheim Kenmores recently and they looked cheap. They were selling for $100 (can) at Hudson's Bay but that's what they looked like they were worth. I still have a pair of Florsheim Imperials that I bought 20 years ago. The quality has definitely gone down since then. I bought a vintage pair similar to the ones shown for about $70. I think I will probably be buried in them.
