On the Subject of: Josef Albers, 1888-1976.

German born, color-field painter, Black Mountain College head of painting program(1934-1949). Teacher to the likes of Rauschenberg, Twombly and Ray Johnson. Head of Design Dept. at Yale, 1950-1958.

    I love pretty much anything that came out of the Bauhaus movement. Anni Albers' textile stuff is insane.

    He was also one of the people that started the college of design at North Carolina State University, one of the most prestigious in the nation. There is currently an Anni Albers program there mixing art and design with textiles. Very good post. Love bauhaus era stuff.

    My great aunt Bernadine studied under him at Black Mountain, and sent a little blue painting by the artist to my grandmother, who didn't care for Bernadine or the painting and had it burnt. Thanks, grandma. Oh, the things that could have been.
